MEO has become the first operator in Portugal to commercially launch a service based on Standalone 5G (5G SA) technology. Aimed at residential and business customers, the new MEO Priority Pass powered by 5G+ provides access to a unique connectivity experience, supported by smarter and more dynamic management of mobile network resources.
Available through a monthly add-on and applicable to all MEO Mobile service plans, the MEO Priority Pass powered by 5G+ is designed to ensure a more consistent internet experience in locations and at times of high network demand, such as major events, airports, urban centers, or other situations of temporary congestion. This allows customers to enjoy a smoother experience when using digital services on the go, even when the network is under heavy strain.
The commercial launch of this offering follows the network slicing pilot announced by MEO in May of this year, which allowed the company to test the capabilities of this standalone 5G technology in a real-world environment with Personal , and business customers from various industries.
Based on the 5G+ network—the commercial name for MEO’s 5G Standalone technology—the network’s performance is tailored to the needs of different use cases, opening up new possibilities for services that require greater consistency, reliability, and responsiveness.
In a business context, MEO Priority Pass powered by 5G+ is particularly well-suited for mobile professionals, field teams, and priority operations. In environments with heavy network usage, it ensures more reliable access to critical applications, video calls, and business systems, contributing to the continuity and efficiency of operations.
The launch of MEO Priority Pass powered by 5G+ reinforces MEO’s strategy of transforming the technological evolution of its 5G+ network into tangible benefits for customers, bringing Standalone 5G closer to everyday use. By commercially rolling out one of the most advanced capabilities of this technology, MEO takes another step forward in the evolution of mobile networks in Portugal and in preparing for new digital applications and services that will require increasing levels of performance, reliability, and flexibility in connectivity.
