Fundação MEO Strengthens the fight against digital risks with a new phase of the "Comunicar em Segurança" program

The MEO Foundation is launching a new phase of the “Comunicar em Segurança” program, which will now operate nationwide through a network of more than 100 MEO volunteer trainers, reinforcing its mission to promote digital literacy and safety among young people and seniors by providing the knowledge and tools needed to recognize risks, avoid fraud, and navigate the digital world more safely. This evolution of the program is marked by the launch of the “Knowledge Protects” campaign, which aims to raise awareness among the Portuguese public about the importance of knowledge and prevention in an increasingly complex digital environment.

In a climate marked by a rise in digital fraud, phishing and spoofing attempts, and the growing use of artificial intelligence in manipulation and disinformation schemes, this initiative aims to inform, prevent, and empower citizens to use digital technology more safely, critically, and responsibly.

Founded in 2009, Comunicar em Segurança has held 18,740 training sessions, reached nearly 4,000 schools, and impacted 619,514 students, with the involvement of 822 volunteers throughout its history.

In 2026, the program will take on a new scale, with coordinators for each geographic region, a strengthened presence in Lisbon, Setúbal, Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra, and the islands, new training content aimed at students in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd cycles, high school students, and seniors, a digital platform for managing requests for training sessions, and a national multimedia campaign.

Under the slogan “In the digital world, the more informed we are, the safer we are online,” the campaign aims to translate complex issues into concrete preventive actions, raising awareness, preventing risks, and empowering the public to use digital technology more safely.

“Digital security is essential to the trust and resilience of an increasingly digital society. In today’s world, where technology and artificial intelligence are transforming the way we communicate, work, and access information, it is crucial to strengthen not only the protection of networks and systems but also people’s knowledge. With ‘Communicating Safely,’ we are fulfilling our role as a trusted partner and contributing to a more informed and responsible use of digital technology,” Madalena Albuquerque, Chief Executive Officer of Fundação MEO

At MEO, cybersecurity is much more than just a technological field. It is a cross-functional commitment to digital trust. From protecting networks and infrastructure to providing cybersecurity solutions for customers and businesses, MEO has been strengthening its efforts in this area, to which it adds an essential dimension: empowering people to recognize and prevent digital risks. The “Comunicar em Segurança” program is part of this commitment, which aims to bring digital security closer to the daily lives of the Portuguese people.

The “Knowledge Protects” campaign will be featured on the radio, on bus shelters, and on digital platforms, with messages tailored to young people and seniors and an invitation to sign up for free digital safety training sessions.
