MEO has made the mobile Internet network slicing feature available on a pre-access basis on its 5G+ network, the commercial name for 5G Standalone (5G SA) technology. This pilot, called MEO Priority Pass powered by 5G+, involves Personal business customers and represents a significant step in the evolution of the mobile network and in the development of advanced solutions capable of responding in a tailored manner to different usage needs.

As part of this pilot program, MEO is testing, in a real-world environment and with the participation of selected customers, the creation of dedicated sections within the mobile network. These segments enable more efficient management of available resources, ensuring an experience tailored to the context and needs of customers, even in areas or during periods of peak network usage.

The network slicing feature is being tested in various contexts and sectors, with the participation of organizations such as Atlânticoline, S.A., the Bensaúde Group, the Sousa Group, the Instituto Superior Técnico, the University of Lisbon, and TAP.

This exclusive MEO Priority Pass pilot, powered by 5G+, offers a first-hand opportunity to test the benefits of 5G SA and network slicing in real-world operational scenarios, ensuring greater reliability and resource management for mobile network access, a superior experience during critical moments, and enhanced security for mobile communications—all of which are essential for field teams and critical mobile access.

Advantages of Standalone 5G Technology
The 5G SA network stands out for its optimized performance, greater energy efficiency, enhanced security features—including advanced encryption and improved authentication—and its ability to support capabilities such as network slicing, which MEO customers are now experiencing firsthand.

This is a next-generation technology for live streaming, content sharing, and ultra-fast downloads and uploads that also offers greater flexibility in the allocation of network resources.

This technological advancement represents a significant improvement over previous architectures, as it enables a more tailored response to the requirements of each service and better management of traffic spikes in a more stable and controlled manner.

With this pilot, MEO is taking a decisive step toward consolidating the technological ecosystem supported by the capabilities of the 5G+ network. In doing so, it reinforces its commitment to providing innovative, simple, and efficient connectivity solutions that meet the current and future needs of its customers, promoting an increasingly reliable and high-quality mobile experience.
