MEO is the only national telecommunications operator participating in the EU-MODEX PT 2026 European Civil Protection Exercise, which will take place from May 5 to 7 in Viseu and will bring together more than 700 personnel from various European countries, reinforcing its commitment to territorial cohesion.
As part of the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism and organized by the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority, the exercise simulates a large-scale wildfire scenario affecting extensive forest areas and residential zones, testing the joint and coordinated response capabilities of national and European agencies.
In this context, MEO ensures the critical communications component, guaranteeing uninterrupted connectivity between operational teams on the ground, even in high-stress situations or in the event of partial infrastructure failure. The operation focuses on network robustness, redundancy, and resilience—key factors for an effective emergency response.
To this end, MEO is deploying specialized teams and technical resources based on three main pillars:
- Improved mobile coverage and connectivity;
- Provision of equipment to support operations, including tablets;
- Deployment of mobile rapid-response units, specifically two Rapid Response Vehicles (VOIR) at the Viseu Fire Department headquarters and at the airfield.
MEO’s participation in EU-MODEX PT 2026 reinforces the brand’s position as a strategic partner in the national civil protection ecosystem, actively contributing to the development and testing of technological solutions that support crisis management and emergency response.
