MEO Foundation's new mobile app revolutionizes accessibility in the areas of culture and sports

The app was officially launched on the 5th, ahead of the start of the national team’s warm-up matches for the World Cup. This marked the partnership established with the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) in the area of accessibility and positioned Portugal as a leader in promoting inclusion in sports, with a concrete and measurable impact on millions of fans.

The SENTIDO app brings together, for the first time on a single platform, real-time accessibility features such as Portuguese Sign Language (LGP), audio description, and descriptive subtitles—features that will transform the user experience. Through the new app, all of the national team’s matches at the 2026 World Cup will have audio description. By providing access to this content directly via smartphone, the app eliminates the need to be in specific areas within the venues, giving users back the autonomy, freedom, and flexibility to enjoy the events from anywhere.

According to Carolina Pita Negrão, Director of Fundação MEO, “The Sentido app is an unprecedented innovation that demonstrates the transformative power of technology when put to work for people. By making culture, sports, and major events truly accessible, we are building a more inclusive society, where no one is prevented from experiencing the moments that bring us together and move us.”

This initiative builds on the significant work that the Fundação MEO carrying out in the area of accessibility, specifically through:

• “Music with a Purpose”: Between 2024 and 2025, the initiative has already ensured accessibility at 13 national events, reaching millions of people.

• “Meaningful Spaces”: a project developed in partnership with hospitals and polytechnic institutes, focused on the use of assistive technologies to improve patients’ quality of life.

Following the World Cup, the app will be gradually integrated into various events and settings, including festivals such as MEO Marés and MEO KALORAMA, films to be shown in movie theaters, and other cultural events. Fully compatible with screen readers, the app is free and has been designed to be intuitive and fully customizable.

After downloading the app, users can configure their preferences—such as text size, contrast, vibration, or haptic feedback—and then access event content via a QR code or access code.

With this launch, the MEO Foundation reinforces its strategy focused on inclusion and the reduction of physical, sensory, and cognitive barriers, reaffirming its role in promoting the active participation of all people in society.
