MEO is partnering with the charity match between Portugal and Nigeria, which will take place tomorrow, June 10, at Dr. Magalhães Pessoa Stadium in Leiria, by promoting a series of initiatives aimed at supporting the communities affected by Storm Kristin.
This match, which marks the national team’s final warm-up game before the World Cup, holds great symbolic significance, as it brings together in Leiria a nationwide outpouring of solidarity with the communities affected by the severe weather that devastated the region last January.
In this context, MEO is joining this national effort through two initiatives that strengthen support for the affected populations:
MEOS Charity Auction
Through June 11, MEO is holding a charity auction of six official National Team jerseys, autographed by the squad selected for the World Cup. Available through the MEO website, bids will be placed in MEOS, which are converted directly into euros (1 MEOS = 1€), with all proceeds going to the Emergency Fund. The six highest bids will be awarded the jerseys up for auction.
For every ticket sold, MEO donates an additional 1 euro
MEO is further bolstering this solidarity effort with an additional contribution of 1€ for every ticket sold for the event, thereby doubling the financial impact of the initiative.
All proceeds from the game will be donated in full to the “Social Emergency Fund—Support for Victims of Storm Kristin,” managed by Cáritas Diocesana de Leiria. This fund addresses urgent social needs arising from the storm, with assistance to be assessed by specialized technical teams in coordination with local authorities.
These initiatives are part of MEO’s ongoing commitment to supporting communities affected by the severe impact of Storm Kristin, which left a trail of significant destruction in Portugal, particularly in the Central region. As a sponsor of the national team, MEO is thus reinforcing its active role in mobilizing solidarity, combining the spirit of unity found in soccer with concrete support for communities.
