In the wake of the earthquake that struck Venezuela, MEO will implement a series of exceptional measures to support communications between Portugal and Venezuela, with the aim of facilitating contact between family members and friends during this particularly difficult time.
Between June 26 and July 5, MEO customers in Portugal will enjoy free calls to Venezuela, allowing them to stay in touch with people in the affected regions. In addition, MEO customers currently in Venezuela will have access to roaming services at no additional cost, including calls (to Portugal and Venezuela) and mobile data, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity during this emergency.
Recognizing that crisis situations place additional strain on telecommunications infrastructure, MEO calls for the responsible use of communications, encouraging customers to prioritize essential communications and avoid unnecessary usage in order to ensure network availability for critical and emergency services.
This initiative aims to support the Venezuelan community living in Portugal, as well as Portuguese citizens currently in Venezuela, by helping them stay in touch with family, friends, and their local networks.
In addition to these measures aimed at customers, MEO will also directly support ANEPC’s on-the-ground response operations by providing communications equipment to the rescue teams that will be part of the Portuguese mission in Venezuela.
With these measures, MEO reaffirms its commitment to putting technology and connectivity at the service of people, ensuring that, in emergencies, communications continue to play an essential role in bringing communities together and supporting affected populations.
