MEO Brings 5G to the Lisbon Metro’s Green Line

MEO has completed its technological upgrade and activated 5G service along the entire Green Line of the Lisbon Metro, taking another step toward improving the digital experience for the thousands of passengers who use this central route every day.

With this new phase, users will now enjoy faster, more stable, and more efficient connectivity along the entire line—from Telheiras to Cais do Sodré—including stations such as Campo Grande, Alvalade, Alameda, Arroios, Intendente, Rossio, and Baixa-Chiado.
AndThis development follows the completion of 5G coverage on the Yellow Line in December 2025 and the pioneering introduction of this technology on the Red Line in 2024, consolidating the ongoing progress in the modernization of the mobile network in the Lisbon Metro.
The project now moves on to the Blue Line, whose modernization and 5G rollout are scheduled for the summer of 2026, bringing us closer to the goal of ensuring a next-generation connectivity experience across the entire underground network of capital.
This is a technically demanding project, developed in close collaboration with the operational teams at Metropolitano de Lisboa, with operational management provided by MEO. This joint effort has been crucial to the consistent and successful progress of the initiative, ensuring direct benefits for all metro users regardless of their mobile network operator.
With this investment, MEO reinforces its commitment to innovation and the development of critical infrastructure for urban mobility, contributing to a more connected, efficient city that is prepared for the digital challenges of the future.
