The 49 range, defined in the National Numbering Plan, was created to support transmission services used in machine-to-machine (M2M) communications, covering critical applications such as the eCall emergency system, as well as the mobile Internet access service. This range aims to meet the specific needs of equipment that supports the "Internet of Things" (IoT), from sensors and vehicles to industrial equipment, and which communicates automatically with each other or with centralized servers, without direct human intervention. It also aims to address mobile Internet access (Mobile Broadband service), strengthening the number capacity to serve these markets.
With this change, MEO now offers its customers more flexible and scalable numbering solutions. The 49 range has the capacity to manage up to 10 billion numbers, driving the adoption of new digital business models and new ways of interacting with customers and partners.
By aligning technology and innovation, MEO reinforces its commitment to leading the digital transformation in Portugal, providing companies and consumers with the tools they need to communicate data efficiently in an increasingly connected future.
The company is thus contributing to the competitiveness of organizations and society in general and to the sustainable development of the digital economy in Portugal.
