MEO reinforced its technological leadership at Web Summit 2025 through one of the largest network operations ever implemented at the event, mobilizing more than 170 professionals and guaranteeing an infrastructure capable of responding to the high connectivity requirements of one of the world's largest technological gatherings. The preparation took place over two months and ensured performance, reliability and potential levels that are benchmarks at international level.
Reference technology operation
MEO's operation included planning, reinforcement and continuous monitoring of the fixed and mobile network, with teams dedicated to optimizing the experience of thousands of participants, startups, companies and journalists. The operation integrated the most advanced high-density traffic solutions and advanced management mechanisms to guarantee stability even during the busiest periods.
Main indicators of the 2025 edition
- Total data traffic volume of 99 terabytes (TB) across all its networks, 36TB more than in 2024.
- 60% of the traffic processed on the mobile network was supported by 5G technology.
- Austria, Germany, the United Kingdom, Brazil and Ukraine stood out as the TOP 5 countries in terms of the number of roamers.
- More than 3.6 million unique sessions established on the Wi-Fi network.
- More than 30,000 unique devices connected to the Wi-Fi network.
- Around 2000 pageviews and 26,500 minutes of viewing of the live broadcast from the Centre Stage on sapo.pt.
- Approximately 8500 hits on MEO TV throughout the days of the event.
Ads and innovation in the spotlight
- First 50G-PON connection in a real environment in Portugal, implemented with Altice Labs technology. This demonstration represents a significant leap in the capacity of fiber optic networks, paving the way for advanced applications based on augmented reality, telemedicine, IoT and smart cities. The project also makes it possible to test next-generation backhaul solutions for MEO's 5G mobile network, ensuring greater stability in data transmission.
- MEO Arena becomes the first arena in the world to be awarded Ookla's Speedtest Certified certification, thanks to the performance of its Wi-Fi network. This distinction reinforces Portugal's position in the adoption of top connectivity solutions in large venues.
