At Europe's largest technology and innovation event, MEO is once again consolidating its role as a national benchmark by ensuring the technological operation of the 2025 edition of the Web Summit. At the heart of the event, MEO's operation center acts as the real "brain", monitoring in real time all the communication infrastructures - fibre, mobile, Wi-Fi and TV - between FIL and MEO Arena, to guarantee visitors, companies, startups and journalists a seamless connected experience.
More than 170 professionals are committed to this mission, with a hundred dedicated exclusively to implementing and reinforcing a network designed to meet extreme demands. After two months of rigorous planning, the teams will be operating 24 hours a day for the next three days, with high technical specialization and fully redundant critical systems, supported by a technical room that is constantly monitoring the event.
MEO's technological infrastructure between FIL and MEO Arena includes around 1,000 access points and 1,700 antennas, covering a venue equipped to support up to 130,000 wireless devices simultaneously. The network is structured around six redundant fiber optic access points with speeds of up to 10 Gbps, supported by around 50 km of UTP and fiber cable, guaranteeing robustness and reliability at each point.
This operation reaffirms MEO's ability to deploy and manage the largest dedicated networks, guaranteeing the same standard of excellence, resilience and know-how that underpins the management of the national network on a daily basis.
MEO Arena a world pioneer in receiving Ookla's Speedtest Certificate for its high-performance Wi-Fi network
The start of this year's edition of Web Summit 2025 was marked by the recognition of MEO Arena as the first arena in the world to receive Speedtest Certified ™, awarded by Ookla®, a global leader in connectivity intelligence, in the evaluation of its Wi-Fi infrastructure.
This certification, based on independent technical tests that analyzed speeds, latency, stability, security and capacity in high-density environments, positions MEO Arena as an international benchmark in connectivity for large venues.
This distinction also highlights MEO's continued investment in state-of-the-art infrastructure, projecting Portugal as a technological leader, while reinforcing MEO Arena's status as the main national stage for large-scale events and setting a new global standard for connectivity quality, essential for demanding applications such as high-definition streaming, videoconferencing, real-time content production and digital payments.
The opening of Web Summit 2025 is thus marked not only by an innovative program, but also by the technological excellence of the infrastructure supporting the event, elevating the experience of all participants.
