The 17th edition of MEO Marés Vivas, which once again transformed Vila Nova de Gaia into the epicenter of music, technology, innovation and social commitment, came to an end last Sunday, July 20. The festival, held between July 18 and 20, consolidated the historic link between MEO and MEO Marés Vivas, standing out for its commitment to connectivity, accessibility and social responsibility.
Excellent technological infrastructure and connectivity
During the three days of the festival, MEO ensured full coverage of fiber optics, Wi-Fi and mobile communications (2G, 4G and 5G), through around 6 km of fiber and more than 150 network devices, including a dedicated mobile station.
The reinforcement of the infrastructure allowed the 120,000 festival-goers who passed through the venue to share experiences in real time and stay connected quickly and safely. Highlights include:
- Over the three days of the festival, 7.7 TB of mobile data was generated, almost double the amount recorded in 2024. This volume of traffic is equivalent to the daily mobile data consumption of a city like Braga and demonstrates the impact of the robust technological infrastructure implemented.
- Of all mobile traffic, 4.33 TB was processed on 5G, which represents a growth of more than 140% compared to the same period in 2024 and confirms the rapid adoption of new generation communications by festival-goers.
- Around 78,000 calls were made, amounting to more than 63,000 minutes of conversation - the equivalent of more than 44 consecutive days on the phone, and more than double the time recorded the previous year.
- Wi-Fi registered peaks of 7,081 unique devices connected on the last day, with up to 2,332 simultaneous users at peak times, guaranteeing stability and performance.
- 6.63 TB of data were consumed via Wi-Fi during the event, an increase of almost 66% on last year - a volume of traffic that could support more than 2,000 users watching a series in HD at the same time.
- In total, the venue's IP network - which integrated communications via Wi-Fi, CCTV and LAN - reached 8.10 TB of traffic, a figure that illustrates the operational complexity and effective integration of security and connectivity solutions needed to ensure the digital experience of the thousands of attendees.
Accessible, inclusive and safe festival
MEO Marés Vivas has maintained its position as a benchmark for inclusion and accessibility. In partnership with Access Lab, the 2025 edition once again guaranteed innovative measures: sensory vests and Portuguese Sign Language interpreters, pause rooms and sensory kits, adapted platforms and toilets, inclusive signage and wheelchair distribution, with audiences of all needs in mind.
This year alone, the Fundação MEO reinforced its social action by handing out 190 "Estou Aqui! Children" wristbands in partnership with the PSP, actively contributing to the safety and tranquillity of the families attending the festival.
MEO Marés Vivas returns in 2026 on July 17, 18 and 19.
