MEO is marking a historic milestone of great significance for the Autonomous Region of Madeira (RAM): the 30th anniversary of the introduction of its mobile network. Three decades of innovation, connectivity and sustained investment have marked the technological development of Madeira, placing the region at the forefront of electronic communications in Portugal.
Since its launch, MEO's mobile network has been a key pillar in the region's progress, modernizing infrastructures and boosting its economic growth. Currently, MEO's 4G coverage covers 99.91% of Madeira's population, while the rapidly expanding 5G network covers 89.60%.
In the last five years, MEO has invested approximately 3.5 million euros in RAM, significantly reinforcing its 4G and 5G networks with more than 50 new mobile sites, including 5G sites.

In collaboration with the Regional Government, the company has contributed to the modernization of infrastructures, namely through the implementation of the 5G network, ensuring robust connectivity on crucial communication routes.
This commitment to excellence was recently recognized by Umlaut, an Accenture company, which distinguished MEO as the operator with the best mobile network in Funchal, highlighting the quality, capacity and breadth of coverage.
To celebrate these three decades of connectivity, MEO has launched a multi-media communications campaign that includes outdoor advertising, radio, press and digital channels. The campaign, which began on March 15, aims to strengthen the proximity with Madeirans, highlighting MEO's role in the development of telecommunications on the island and projecting an innovative vision for the future. The "30 years of Madeira" graphic line and a commemorative stamp are key elements of this initiative.
In addition to the technological aspect and the modernization of the network, the campaign also marks MEO's commitment to culture and sport in Madeira, reinforcing the company's support for the region's main events. This involvement culminates in the "MEO Sons do Mar" event, a landmark in Madeira's cultural and musical agenda.
