José Pedro Nascimento, Altice Portugal's Chief Technology Officer (CTO), was distinguished as "CTO of the Year" by Mobile Europe, a magazine dedicated to the telecommunications industry, in recognition of his leadership and ability to align cutting-edge technological solutions with Altice Portugal's business objectives, playing a crucial role in the company's digital transformation.
With more than 30 years' experience, Altice Portugal's CTO was chosen from among 7 nominees from some of the largest operators and telecommunications companies, including BT, Orange Egypt and T-Mobile Polska: Alexander Jenbar from T-Mobile (Poland), Andrius Šemeškevičius from Telia (Lithuania), Ayman Amiri from Orange (Egypt), Colin Bannon from BT Global (UK), Dejan Kastelic from Vodacom (South Africa), Howard Watson from BT (UK), Ville Virtanen from DNA (Finland) and Yogesh Malik from Tele2 (Sweden).
Cith the aim of highlighting and recognizing the best in the sector at an international level, the "CTO of the Year" awards aim to highlight and recognize the leadership skills of CTOs and the work done by their teams.
All the work carried out by José Pedro Nascimento and the Altice Portugal teams contributed to winning this award, namely by being the first Portuguese operator to launch an XGS-PON commercial offer, including a symmetrical 10Gbps Internet offer, for both the consumer and business segments; in implementing the digital transformation project for the Altice Group's systems and processes; in carrying out the process of discontinuing the 3G network, in order to free up frequencies for strengthening the quality of the 5G network, and in ensuring an excellent experience and network for the 1.5 million pilgrims at WYD Lisbon 2023, with more than 180TB of network traffic processed over the course of a week.
